Saving a Screen Shot
Q.
Occassionally I need to save a screen shot. It
may have been an error message, or just
something I want to keep. What would you
suggest?
A. The
‘old standby’ which works in Windows XP,
Vista, and Windows 7 is to use the <Prt Scr>
key on your keyboard. The entire screen image
is captured to the Clipboard, which you can
paste into Word or any image editing software.
(Make sure you look at the key – if it has two
sets of words on the same key, then you may
need to use SHIFT/<Prt Scr> to get it to
work).
For Windows 7 users (and some
Vista versions), you have the Snipping Tool.
Click Start, type snip, and then click on
Snipping Tool. It will dim your screen when
the menu comes up. With this tool, you can
snip just an area, or the whole screen. Then
save the snipped area as a file, or copy it to
the Clipboard, or email it, or you can even
add some basic notations using a pen or
highlighter.
